The Harishchandra Ghat ghat is named after a mythological King Harish Chandra, who once worked the cremation ground here for the perseverance of truth and charity but at the end the Gods rewarded him and restored his lost throne and his dead son to him. Cremation at Harishchandra Ghat, a leg can be seen at the left of the fire. At the end of a cremation a small hole is put in the forehead of the skull so the spirit can leave. |
